PARQUE NATURAL DA RIBEIRA DOS CALDEIRÕES
Ribeira Dos Caldeiroes is a lush, green park with waterfalls and paths.
This small nature park is located on the slopes of the Serra da Tronqueira, along the Ribeira do Guilherme river, which has carved out a lovely gorge. A stop here is a must. The project is to enhance the landscape, and the challenge is more than met. Waterfalls everywhere, little paths for strolling through this enchanting nature, kiosks, benches for contemplation and five 16th-century watermills... Everything is green and lush, a veritable Garden of Eden. It's paradise just around the bend, an exuberant valley where you can listen to nature and relax for a while... The park has also been incorporated into the Pico da Vara and Ribeira do Guilherme Special Protection Area to protect its Macaronesian flora and a species of passerine bird that has made its home here.
On-site parking, snack bar, picnic area, toilets and a small information desk. Don't hesitate to enter the watermills (some of which are open to the public) to discover small exhibitions about their workings and the region. You can walk around the park in about 20 minutes, but to really immerse yourself in this delightful place, take the time to take a few photos and admire the scenery from the miradouros.
This is also the starting point for a hike that runs north to Achada for just over 2 km. Canyoning is also available.
