The famous blue- or green-eyed sacred eels(puhi tari'a or eared eels) undulate in the submerged roots of the mape (chestnut) trees. Despite their impressive size (1 to 2 m) for the size of this river, children play with them by the dozen. When they're at school, they rest and hardly move, looking almost like enormous sea cucumbers. There's nothing impressive about this environment, but it's well worth a stop.

La population locale vous expliquera volontiers comment voir les anguilles et confiera peut-être l'un ou l'autre anecdote.
