A colorful parade of masks and costumes animates the city of Hatillo on the day of the Holy Innocents. There is dancing and laughter.
The Hatillo Mask Festival traditionally refers to the passage in the Bible about King Herod ordering the slaughter of all newborns to make sure he killed Jesus. The men of the town wear masks to represent the soldiers who sought the child. A colorful parade of masks and costumes animates the city on December 28, the day of the Holy Innocents. The downtown area of Hatillo is transformed into a popular theater, where people dance, laugh, joke and celebrate until the end of the night.
