WESTERN MOUNTAINS
Go there and contact
The Western Mountains (Xi Shan) are located in the southwest outskirts of Kunming on the banks of Dian Lake. It is a large natural park formed by a set of hills stretching over 40 km. From the bus stop at the foot of the mountains to the Dragon Gate, count 2 to 3 hours walking. Minibuses make the trip regularly, do not hesitate to take one on the road.
The first temple on this road is the Huating temple (Huating Si, 4 RMB entry), from the kingdom of Nanzhao (entry: 4 RMB). The temple has been restored several times and extended over time. The garden is beautiful. Above, always on the same road, stands the temple Taihua (Taihua Si, entry: 3 RMB). It is the oldest temple in the Western Mountains (1306). At 2 350 m altitude, statues of Buddha and protective warriors stand majestically.
2 km further, you will arrive at the bus stop on a small square. At this location is a park composed of a grove of trees and the tomb of Deny Er (1912-1936), a famous musician from the province of Yunnan (entry: 1 RMB). He composed the Chinese national anthem. A small museum tells its story through photos. The park has a statue of the western dressed artist. From here you can take the cable car (25 RMB) or visit the site on foot. We advise you to lift in a lift (the view is magnificent) and go down on foot. If you choose this option, you will start with the Dragon Gate (Long men). The Ethnies Ethnic Museum is also accessible from the cable car.
