YUFENG MONASTERY AND THE "KING OF THE CAMELLIAS"..
Yufeng is one of the seven mills built during the reign of Emperor Qing. Yufeng is mainly visited for its «camellia to ten thousand flowers». The tree was planted during the Ming dynasty (1465-1487) and it was said that the mill was built here because of him. This tree (in fact these are two trees that have grown together), older than 500 years old, blooms on several occasions, covering around twenty sets composed of about hundred flowers. The monasteries of the Lijiang region are all of Tibetan origin and belong to the Red Bonnets order. There were once many frescoes around Lijiang. Unfortunately, most were devastated and destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. Note that the monastery was renovated in 2013, but it still does not justify the exorbitant price of the entrance…
