VESTIGES DU CHÂTEAU
Cemetery with a number of interesting tombs, with a superb view of the town of Châtillon-sur-Seine.
Built between the 12th and 14th centuries by the Dukes of Burgundy, the Château de Châtillon-sur-Seine was conceived as a stronghold facing the neighboring County of Champagne and the royal domain. Destroyed in 1598 on the orders of Henri IV, all that remains today are the ruins of the rampart and three defensive towers. Of particular note is the cemetery in the center of the former château, where several interesting graves are located, including that of Maréchal Marmont. You can climb to the top of the Gissey tower, which offers a unique view of the town.
