CHÂTILLON-SUR-SEINE VILLE IMPÉRIALE
A town of old quarters, mansions, buildings and a museum, events are also organized here.
The Cité du Maréchal Marmont welcomes you to its verdant setting and invites you to discover its remarkable historical heritage: old quarters, town houses, historic buildings... In the museum, an entire room is dedicated to Maréchal d'Empire Marmont, officer and friend of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who bequeathed his personal archives and part of his possessions to the town. Since 2020, Châtillon-sur-Seine has been awarded the Ville Impériale label, which recognizes sites with a significant First and Second Empire heritage to promote. Nature lovers will also appreciate the town's National Forest Park.
2024 is a special year for Châtillon-sur-Seine, as it marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Maréchal Marmont, Napoleon Bonaparte's imperial officer and a native of Châtillonnais. A number of festivities linked to the Ville Impériale label are planned: on Saturday July 20 and Sunday July 21, 2024, an Imperial Weekend will be held, with parades, demonstrations, artillery firing, a bivouac of soldiers in uniform, exhibitions and lectures in the Château Marmont gallery, a fair and a First Empire costume ball. Saturday, October 26, 2024 sees the Fête de la Truffe Impériale, where you can discover truffles by strolling through stands, tasting local products or attending lectures on this pure product of the Burgundy terroir.
