SILVER TRAIL
Road to the south-east of Dawson City used for the exploitation of the silver mines discovered in the area.
The Silver Trail is a road that starts from the Klondike Highway at Stewart Crossing, southeast of Dawson City, and connects the community of Mayo, and further on to the tiny mining hamlets of Elsa and Keno City. The road was created in 1950-51, long after the end of Klondike gold fever, to exploit the silver mines discovered in the area. The 51 km of the road to Mayo are paved. The 15 km from Stewart Crossing is a protected area for elk calving.
