SANTA LUCÍA CLOUD FOREST RESERVE
The Santa Lucía Cloud Reserve is, as its name indicates, a natural reserve nestled in a cloud forest. This 1 800-hectare reserve is a real paradise for 394 species of birds living there in peace and quiet, as well as 45 mammals (pumas, bears, etc.). Not to mention plant species such as orchids or bromélias. This includes toucans, eagles, hummingbirds… The reserve is managed by local populations who, through cooperation, receive sustainable income.
Accommodation and meals. The écolodge (huts) lies in the heart of the cloud forest, on a ridge at 1 900 m altitude. Rooms, double or dormitories with private or communal bathrooms, are rustic and offer breathtaking views of the forest. The lodge can accommodate up to 22 people. Compost toilet and solar energy. Local traditional meals prepared with organic products from the garden. Vegetarian diet possible. A nice place to relax, walk, observe nature.
Volunteer. Santa Lucía Reserve welcomes volunteers, by group and individual, thus promoting the development of sustainable ecotourism and enabling the survival of environmental conservation projects. Volunteers are involved in the preservation of the forest, serving as an interface between members of local communities, dealing with organic cultures… Online conditions on the website.
