JORN MUSEUM (JORN MUSEUM)
Museum containing works by contemporary foreign artists such as Wemaëre, Picabia, Léger, Max Ernst...
The Jorn Museum was built around the collections of Asger Jorn (1914-1973), which consist of more than 5,000 works by 150 artists. They were given by the painter to his native city. The artist is considered one of the founders of the CoBrA movement, a post-war movement reacting to the quarrel between figuration and abstraction. Numerous works are associated with this group of artists, most of whom were born in Brussels, Copenhagen and Amsterdam: Alechinsky, Pedersen, Constant, Reinhoud. Among the masterpieces: a common canvas, untitled, made in 1949 by the main members of the group (Jorn, Appel, Constant, Corneille and Nyholm). Their artistic manifesto!
The museum was later enriched by other acquisitions (including lithographs by Odilon Redon). Among the contemporary foreign artists exhibited: Wemaëre, Picabia, Léger (of whom Jorn was a student in Paris), Le Corbusier, Max Ernst, Dubuffet, Sam Francis. But also some Italian painters (Pinot Gallizo), Chinese (Walasse Ting), Cuban (Samuel Feijo), Japanese (Yasse Tabuchi) or German (Hans Puatsatek). Inside, one moves from intimate rooms to small ones that open onto vast spaces lit from above.
This beautiful building is located near the Gudenå river. It is possible to go down to its banks for a pleasant walk after the visit. In front, the large mosaic is signed Dubuffet. It was presented in Paris in 1977.
Take a break at the Cobra café open on the terrace of the park.
