CATEDRAL DE SAN LUIS
Old cathedral still standing in the province of San Luis, featuring a 1924 bell tower, a crypt and a Dominican convent
The cathedral is the oldest building still standing in the province. It was built in 1883 by order of the governor of the province Don José Rufino Lucero y Sosa. It contains a crypt and a 17th century Dominican convent and its current bell tower dates from 1924. From the outside, the cathedral takes on the air of a temple thanks to its atrium formed by six Corinthian-style columns. Behind it, the large central dome stands out. Two white marble statues of Saint Luis Rey and San Antonio were placed in the atrium in 1939.
