The abandoned home of Domingo Ordoñana, originally known as Casa Blanca, is a typical example of a mid-19th century ranch. Originally from the Basque Country, Ordoñana arrived in Montevideo in 1842 and dedicated his life to ranching, quickly becoming a pioneer of rural progress. When Blanes decided to paint the famous painting El Juramento de los Treinta y Tres Orientales, it was at Ordoñana's home that he was welcomed to take sketches of the area. He also commissioned and paid for the pyramid commemorating the landing of the 33 Orientals.
