The museum traces the history of the town of Wrangell, including some of the oldest totem poles in the region, dating back to 1700. A beautiful collection of Tlingit Indian baskets is on display in the museum. The visit obviously evokes the gold rush and the prosperous periods of the city which then had hotels, saloons and warehouses. From this period, nearly 3,000 objects and artefacts are still preserved and form an integral part of the museum, such as crockery and, above all, black and white photographs.
