VISITE DE LA DMZ
The visit leads you to the many famous remains and buildings in Cheorwon and along the DMZ. The tour begins with the tourist information office, surrounded by Korean warplanes and tanks.
The visit of the Second Tunnel under the DMZ is particularly interesting. Excavated by the North Korean troops, it was discovered in 1975.
The Cheorwon Peace Observatory, built in 2007, makes it possible to see the North Korean propaganda village built just across the DMZ.
Woljeong-ri's train station is hopelessly closed, waiting for geopolitics to re-use it.
Next to it, the Crues Museum is dedicated to animal species that find refuge in the DMZ, and that make Cheorwon proud today. The headquarters of the Workers' Party (North Korean Communist Party, still in power in Pyongyang), which remains ruined, is probably the most emblematic vestige of Cheorwon, reminding us that the city was, between 1945 and the Korean War, in North Korea. It is difficult to imagine that the surrounding building comprised the city center, now deserted and completely displaced several kilometers further south.
This tour is more interesting than those from Seoul, first because of the slightest inclination, then because it takes you to the heart of the Korean War, particularly sensitive in that region.
In winter, you can also join very interesting bird watching tours. Gigantic cranes or wild geese are the new population of DMZ during the winter season, the living conditions in Siberia from which these birds are unbearable at this time of year. In the morning, the spectacle of bird flight is grandiose, and all day you can observe the cranes in the fields.
