MONASTERY OF SAN JUAN DE ORTEGA
Latin cross plan construction in Romanesque style, the Chapel of Saint Nicholas, founded by Juan de Ortega
Founded by Juan de Ortega, the Romanesque Chapel of San Nicolás is classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest. Isabel the Catholic, who was visiting in 1477, ordered the extension of the church. It is a Latin cross construction, with a single span of three naves, a transept and three apses, each forming a chapel covered with barrel vaults. It is possible to admire its famous capital of the Nativity, illuminated by the sun only on days of equinox.
