SAN ANTONIO MONASTERY
Monastery built in the 12th century by King Alfonso VII, whose way to Santiago passes under a portal with archivolts
This monastery was erected in the 12th century by King Alfonso VII, although the remains of this impressive building are still visible today and date from the 14th century. It was the seat of the Antonian Order, whose main mission was to assist pilgrims. In the 16th century, two arches of a high portico marked the entrance to the church, whose portal was decorated with rich sculptures. The route to Santiago de Compostela passes just below the portico that is still standing. It is one of those symbolic passages along the pilgrimage.
