HISTORIC FORT WAYNE
This fort, built between 1842 and 1851, offers special programming throughout the year.
Built between 1842 and 1851, it was thethird fort in the city but the first one built by the Americans (the other two having been built respectively by the French and the English). Although it was never used, the United States and England having finally signed a treaty, Fort Wayne became a preparation center for Michigan troops leaving for the front, from the American Civil War to Vietnam. Other uses were also found before it was finally opened to the general public. Special events are scheduled throughout the year.
