CATHÉDRALE SAINT-BÉNIGNE
Dijon's Cathedral of Saint-Bénigne and its crypt are listed historic monuments, and include a must-see rotunda.
Close to the train station, the Saint-Bénigne cathedral also adjoins the Musée Archéologique. Built between 1280 and 1393, the edifice began life as an abbey church, before becoming the cathedral we know today in 1792. Featuring beautiful Gothic architecture, the cathedral also conceals a Romanesque crypt, prompting the authorities to classify the building as a Monument Historique in the 19th century. Placed under the patronage of Saint Bénigne, a 2nd-century Christian martyr, the building still boasts several 18th-century paintings and a large organ.
