PALAIS DES DUCS ET DES ÉTATS DE BOURGOGNE
This political and cultural landmark is one of Dijon's symbols
High place of the political and cultural life of Dijon, the Palace of the Dukes and States of Burgundy is one of the symbols of Dijon. Start by climbing the Philippe le Bon Tower overlooking the palace and culminating at 46 meters. After the 316 steps, you can contemplate the roofs of the city, see the first foothills of the Jura and even, in good weather, the Mont Blanc. The tower dominates the main courtyard of the Palace which opens onto the Place de la Libération. The building, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, now houses the city's reception office, the offices of the Mayor of Dijon and his advisors and deputies. The Cour de Flore is located in the classical part of the building. Under the entrance porch of this courtyard, you will discover the magnificent Gabriel staircase which leads to the Salle des États. This room, which is the glory of Burgundy, was the venue for the meetings of the States of Burgundy. In the same courtyard, the Salle de Flore is also located, where the municipal councils are held. To go and see the third courtyard, namely the courtyard of Bar, go through the back of the Palace. In this courtyard, discover the ducal kitchens built at the request of Philip the Good in the 15th century with six large fireplaces. This is also where the entrance to the Fine Arts Museum is located. When you arrive at the Square des Ducs de Bourgogne, admire the medieval facade and once your visit is over, don't hesitate to have a drink at the Brasserie des Beaux-Arts.
