PARC DE LA COLOMBIÈRE
An ideal place for a family outing, a jog, a picnic or simply to enjoy a breath of fresh air.
The Parc de la Colombière is one of Dijon's favorite parks. It is a real green lung in the heart of the city and the ideal place for a family walk, a jog, a picnic or simply to enjoy a breath of fresh air. This 33-hectare French garden has even obtained the Ecojardin label for its ecological management that respects biodiversity and has been listed as a historical monument since 1925. To get there, nothing could be easier. Just follow the park's paths, nicknamed the "Champs-Élysées of Dijon", and you will come face to face with the 6,000 trees that cover the estate and the 16 symmetrical paths that give it a timeless atmosphere.
A bit of history: built in the 17th century by Louis II de Bourbon, Prince of Condé and Governor of Burgundy, its configuration evolved over time. It is the son of the Grand Condé who undertook its development at the time when he built the Castel de Colombière: a hunting lodge on the other bank of the Ouche. When you arrive, the imposing 17th century gate opens onto this wooded area. A hundred or so conifers, vast lawns, spruces, hornbeams, yews, lindens and oaks are today the playground of squirrels that children enjoy watching, while taking a ride on a rosalie or a donkey.
Antoine de Maerle, a student of Le Nôtre and creator of the gardens of Versailles, was responsible for the strict geometry that allows the 16 paths to radiate from the heart of the park. An octagonal alley links these same alleys and goes around the wood. Two malls (large paths lined with trees and benches) are located on either side of the park and allow pedestrians to stroll around a large lawn. The remains of Agrippa's Roman road (which linked Langres to Chalon-sur-Saône) and a 17th century temple of Love from the castle of Bierre-lès-Semur are housed in the undergrowth.
The playgrounds, the nearby equestrian center as well as the peacocks, turkeys and other animals on site make this park a complete and ideal place for a nature and discovery weekend that will satisfy parents and children.
Finally, you will also find the ecodrome. Numerous animations around nature are proposed, as well as sensational activities, from 3 years old, adapted to children and open to all ages. Discover seven high acrobatic courses, each equipped with a 100% secure life line, or the adrenaline of a 12-meter high jump!
