THE REMAINS OF THE CASTLE
In the Middle Ages, Duesme was as populated as the village of Aignay. A strategic location and natural defences. In the 13th century, the dukes of Burgundy built one of the largest fortified castles of their territory. The design of some of its elements - curtains, for example - moulded the shapes of the cliff and the ditches were carved out of the rock. A church was inside, it was moved to the village at the end of the 17th century. Today, the fortress no longer stands, but the scattered ruins, invaded by vegetation, give the place a cosy atmosphere that leads us to dream with beautiful stories of capes and swords, valiant knights and pretty princesses.
To see also in the village: the Pialat company specialised in the stone of Châtillonnais (by appointment on 03 80 93 87 74) and the washhouse of Gronet with a pretty shaped animal head gargouille.
