YUMANI
Main entrance port of Isla del Sol with Inca remains, the escalinatas of Yumani, the mirador, the Inca Garden
Yumani is the main gateway to the island, with boats docking on its quays. It is a small village often crowded, drowned by the incessant flow of tourists. You will find a lot of hotels and restaurants there since it is the preferred stopover for tour operators. You will be greeted by touts praising the merits of their hotel. This part of the island shelters several Inca vestiges, proof of the importance of the village since centuries. The superb staircase which leads from the port to the village is also exhausting! Attention: when you arrive on the island, you will be asked to pay an entrance fee of 10 Bs. You can keep this coupon with you to enter several other sites on the island. Also, if you are staying on the island, be sure to ask your guide or locals to find mules or donkeys for you to take your bags to your room. There are no vehicles on Isla del Sol, so you'll need to make use of these services if you're worried about the physical ordeal of hiking to your hotel.
Escalinatas of Yumani. A staircase of the Inca period, quite impressive, leads you to a fountain with three water sources that symbolize the three Inca laws: Ama Sua, Ama llulla, Ama Kella ("thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not lie, thou shalt not be lazy"). Some also say that it would be the fountain of youth(fuente de la eterna juventud) so much sought by the conquistadores. A few years ago, the population of Yumani had to come to fetch water from this fountain every morning, with their donkeys. Just imagine the effort that had to be made to supply water to all the hotels and restaurants on the island! Even today, you will have to be very careful with your water consumption. All the inhabitants of the island will appreciate your effort.
Mirador Palla Khasa. Following the signs along a nice path, you will arrive at a stone lookout located at the top of Cerro Palla Khasa, at an altitude of 4,065 meters. It is from this viewpoint that many sunset enthusiasts gather to contemplate the 360 degree view of the Calzada, the Ancohuma to the north and the Peruvian shores to the south. A paroxysm of beauty.
Jardín del Inca. On the right, going up the stairs, you will see a magnificent botanical garden, property of the Transturin agency. Its terraced layout makes it unique. Flowers of all colors and plantations of high quality agricultural products will harmonize with the striking panorama of the Cordillera Real.
