SITIO DE ISKANWAYA
Ruins at 250 meters above the Llica River, the pre-Inca city linked to the Mollo culture that developed between 1000 and 1500 AD
Located at 280 km from La Paz, these ruins deserve for sure the detour. Many consider that the vestiges of Iskanwaya are even more impressive than those of Tiwanaku. Perched to 250 meters above the Río Llica, this pre-Inca city belongs to the Mollo culture which developed between 1000 and 1500 AD. Its population was estimated at about 3,000 inhabitants. In total, 13.5 hectares host more than 70 buildings where all the streets are oriented east-west. Terraced cultivation and an efficient hydraulic system complete the ensemble.
