ISLA INCAHUASI
The amazing Isla Incahuasi offers a remarkable contrast with the blinding white of the salt desert
The astonishing Isla Incahuasi ("house of the Inca", in Quechua) offers a remarkable contrast to the blinding whiteness of the salt desert. This small coral island in the middle of the salt expanse, planted with hundreds of cacti, was once sacred. Sacrifices were performed here. Follow the marked path between the cacti (which can reach 10 meters in height) and make your way to the top of the island. It's well worth the effort, as the panorama is simply breathtaking. On-site cafeteria, toilets and picnic tables.
