The ascent of Tunupa (5,321 m) is certainly the least complicated of the great volcanoes of the region. We spend the night in Coquesa, where about 30 families live, and start the hike the next morning. The ascent to the first mirador takes about 3 hours. After the visit of an archaeological site (mummies dating back to 1200 BC), we continue the ascent to the second mirador (half day) or, for the most courageous, to the crater (2 days). To get the adrenaline pumping, consider doing the descent by zip line! Be prepared for strong winds.
