San Juan del Rosario is located between the Salar de Uyuni and the Salar de Chiguana. The village is often used as a stopover for excursions that leave the Salar in the direction of South-Lípez. In San Juan, the quinoa real is grown, a plant that is well adapted to salt, hence its importance in the region. To exchange goods with their Chilean neighbours, the only solution was to cross the great white desert to Uyuni, where you could exchange your salt, quinoa and llama wool for rarer commodities. Don't miss the Necropolis and the small museum next to it.
