TEATRO GUARANY
Beautiful theater with walls decorated with paintings by Paulo Von Poser, depicting Carlos Gomes' opera O Guarany
The Teatro Guarani was inaugurated in 1882 and decorated with the paintings of the local artist Benedito Calixto, who became famous for his paintings of Brazilian figures and scenes of life. It hosted the greatest shows of the time. The entire interior of this beautiful theater was destroyed in a fire in 1981. For two decades, the place remained abandoned, then in 2008, it was reopened after long restoration works. The walls now feature paintings by Paulo Von Poser, which depict the opera O Guarany by Carlos Gomes.
