TEATRO COLISEU
Theater in the 1920s, with a refined interior decorated with 39 chandeliers, seating up to 1,000 people
Like many places of leisure in the West at the beginning of the 20th century, from the Vel d'hiv to the Casablanca stadium, via the Marseille velodrome, this imposing construction inaugurated in 1897 was first a velodrome. It became a theatre in the 1920s and was abandoned in the 1970s. It was not until 1996 that restoration work began and was not completed until ten years later. Today the theatre can accommodate up to 1,000 people. The refined interior is decorated with 39 chandeliers by the Italian Adolfo Fonzari.
