Quality ecotourism is on offer in the Paraty region. The Serra da Bocaina National Park, which extends around Paraty, offers superb walks through the Mata Atlântica, with numerous waterfalls and magical viewpoints scattered along the banks of the Rio Perequê-Açu and the mountain. The mountain trails in the lower part can be done without a guide, but it is nevertheless advisable to take one for local information. If you wish to sleep in the upper part of the park, you must request authorization at the park entrance.
