EMPEROR LIU QI'S MAUSOLEUM

Opened to the public in 2006, this mausoleum revealed an incredible series of terracotta figurines: men and women, civil and military, over 3 000 characters, naked and without arms, with a size equivalent to about one tenth of the real size. The site actually houses two main tombs, that of the Emperor Han of Western Liu Qi, and that of the Empress. The emperor's tomb is open to the public, the country's first underground museum. The dazzling collections of statues are displayed in a museum built on the site.
