CHINTAMANI PARSHVANATH JAIN TEMPLE
Jain temple built on a mound, dedicated to Parshvanath, famous for its sculptures and magnificent ornamental frescoes.
At the end of Sadar Bazar, west of the city, this Jain temple dates back to the 12th century. Built on a hillock, it is dedicated to Parshvanath, the 23rd tirthankar. He is always represented with a canopy of snakes above his head and a cobra at his feet, as he is said to have saved two snakes from fire. The temple is famous for its carvings, beautiful ornamental frescoes and colored glass inlays, decorative elements quite rare in Jain temples.
