Dussehra is celebrated all over India to celebrate the victory of Rama over Râvana, but the celebrations in Kota are the most famous. The city vibrates to the rhythm of the festival for 25 days, from the beginning of Navratri until the eve of Diwali. On Dussehra day, 50,000 to 100,000 people gather to participate in processions in colorful garments and burn 75 effigies of demons. The festival is also the occasion of a big fair, where 1,500 peddlers come to sell traditional handicrafts and plastic articles from China.
