This colonial fort was built by the French on a very steep morne.
It was the French who built this fort during the colonial era. Difficult to access because of its steep slope, a squad of American marines nevertheless succeeded in a lightning attack in 1915, defeating all the Haitian resistance fighters who had taken refuge there and were fighting against the American occupation. All were killed.
