MONASTERIO DE IRACHE
Monastery located at the foot of Montejurra Mountain, with a magnificent Romanesque church, a cloister of plateresque style...
Located at the foot of Montejurra, the sacred mount of the Carlists, the Irache Monastery was founded by Benedictine monks. It was here that the first hospice on the Way of St. James was built in 1045. There is a magnificent Romanesque church, a cloister in Plateresque style and another, from the 16th century, with beautifully carved capitals. Over the years, the monastery has become an important stop on the pilgrimage route, and it should soon be transformed into a Parador. The architectural richness of the site makes it an essential stopover.
