We stayed in the cottage for 2 nights and I wouldn’t stay again. The description of the property did not match real life at all. The “stocked private pond” was a ditch on the side of the backyard - with no fish. The fire pit was a small chiminea filled with cigarette butts. After bringing food to cook, we drove 20 minutes to Covington for each meal due to the condition of the kitchen/pots/pans. We also went to Wal Mart to buy bedding to put over the stained pull-out mattress. There’s bugs in the screened in porch area (not a big deal) but then there’s a missing lock and hole on the door that they just crawl through. $400 a night is a lot of money to take from people, especially when it feels intentionally misleading and embellished.

I've always had pets. Always! I've learned through bad experiences to do research then research some more for the right breeder. So after 36 years of marriage, when James says to me, "I've always wanted a full-blooded dachshund," my first reply was "What? Really?" Then I did my homework for 3 months. Even when I found Splendor Farms and Kelly I didn't move right away. I scoured the available info again and again. Finally, this would be was OUR place. I purchased Bleu and he was delivered practicing social distancing one day before the Texas/Louisiana boarder was closed because of COVID. Best doggie day ever. Kelly is kind, passionate about ALL her babies, breeds ethically and is direct in conversation. No miscommunications (huge plus). We where so happy with our pup and the experience that we did it again. We now have 2 SP pups. No longer in COVID-mode, I drove 270 miles to pick up Roozy. This time I was able to see the Farm first-hand. It is everything I researched and more including the lady that has devoted much of her life to the love and integrity of the breed. I have recommended SF/Kelly many times and will continue. On a side note: I have had Bleu for 4 years. In that time I've reached out to Kelly for non-vet advice/direction. She has always made herself available and was knowledgeable and helpful to the situation.
Great experience, excellent pups! Happy home.

After a devastating loss of one of our fur babies, my husband found Kelly McKinney and Splendor Farms. Kelly was so helpful and very kind. As a result, we drove to Louisiana and purchased two beautiful female puppies from her. We immediately fell in love with our girls!!! Kelly and her team do such a great job of socializing their puppies. They are sweet and kind and have the best dispositions. 2 years later we adopted two male brothers and they are just as wonderful and such characters!! We have an elderly dachshund that we rescued and they all love each other. Most importantly, Kelly is very serious about her business and the welfare of her horses, adult dogs and her puppies. Kelly is very informed, organized, and is always available to answer questions and concerns. If you are someone that is very serious about adopting then you will be in very good hands. We thank Kelly everyday for our beautiful babies!

I got my mini dachshund from Splendor Farms and I would HIGHLY recommend. I live in NC but it was so worth it to fly to get little Reagan. She is SO well tempered and Kelly was so great to work with. You can tell how much Kelly cares about her animals and how her and her team spent quality time with them before giving them to their new owners. Reagan has been a DREAM and will be forever thankful for Splendor Farms giving me my bestie.

I have acquired 3 beautiful dogs from Splendor Farms over the last 12 years. My first was over 12 years ago . He was a happy playful loving little boy and my dearest companion for 12 years . He passed away due to a sudden illness 3 months ago. When Kelly ( the breeder) heard of my loss she called me and we cried together. A short time later I decided I and my 3 year old dachshund needed another dog to heal our souls . After looking on the site I was interested in a little older puppy posted there. I contacted Kelly to ask about him . She knew the personality of my girl, who I picked up as a 3 month old, 3 years ago. She also knew the temperament of the little boy who caught my eye . She told me they would be a good fit . And indeed they are. Getting an older dog who has lived on the farm is a little different than getting a baby . It takes a little more patience as my environment and farm life is quite different . He has been with us 3 months and I have watched him blossom into a funny, playful kind of bossy little guy. I have been well pleased with all my puppies from Splendor Farms . They are healthy beautiful animals with good temperaments . I know if I have any problem I can call Kelly as a resource person and she will share her knowledge gladly. She held my puppies first after all. My 6 month old was microchipped, crate trained and housebroken. I get so tickled each night when I carry my girl to her kennel and tell him to kennel up. He runs straight into the kennel and wait patiently for me to close it and tell him good night!

I have had dachshunds literally all of my life and have my last two from Splendor Farms and must say that the quality, health and temperament are like no others. They are sweet, lovable and perfect family members and companions. kelly is extremely knowledgeable and supportive of all of her Splendor Farms family members. I will go nowhere but Splendor Farms for my next family member! Five Stars all the way!!!

Purchased an adult male dachshund (about 1 1/2 years old) from Kelly and it was a positive experience. She was very professional and polite to deal with, and our dog is wonderful. Even though he was an adult, he quickly adjusted to our family with three kids and three other dogs. He gets lots of compliments on both his looks and manners. I would recommend considering this place if you are looking to add a dachshund to your home!

We have gotten 3 pups from Kelly over a period of 11 years. Each time she has been so available, supportive and kind. When one of our boys got hurt, her concern was so genuine even though he had left the farm 10 years earlier. Can’t say enough about the health and beauty of our pups as well. Their temperaments are loving and gentle (but very stubborn) Kelly is the best because of how much she cares.

My wife and I cannot say enough good things about our beautiful dachshund that we got from Splendor Farms. We wanted an adult dog. Kelly, the owner of Splendor Farms, could not have been nicer and has been all these years later. Any question or concern we have had has been answered quickly and thoroughly and with good research done when necessary, as when there were concerns about some brands of dog food. As for the dog, she is the calmest sweetest best behaved dog and this is due, we know, to the loving care she received at Splendor Farms. We would recommend anyone get a beautiful well bred dachshund from Kelly at Splendor Farms.

I wanted to provide a review about the dachshunds from Splendor Farms and its owner Kelly. Kelly is dedicated to preserving the dachshund breed's characteristics, placing her dogs in homes that are an appropriate fit, and producing healthy puppies that are well socialized. She spends time educating her owners, reinforces how she is only "a phone call away", and ensures that all of us becoming a member of the Splendor Farms family know, that for any reason we cannot continue to provide care to our dogs, she will gladly accept them home. I would describe Kelly as conscientious and committed. That's why I can say without hesitation that my next dachshund will be from Splendor Farms.

Our dog from splendor farms has been nothing but the best experience. We picked up Maple as a puppy and had great guidance and insight from Kelly on every aspect of owning a dachshund. She is always responsive and answers any questions we have regarding Maple, whether it was on our way home from picking her up or a year and a half later. She truly cares about each pup and their wellbeing for their entire life. Would highly recommend. If you are looking for a dachshund, this is the place to go.

We had never had a dog before dealing with Kelly. My wife flew 1000 miles to get our 9 week old Dachshund from Splendor Farms, turned around and flew home same day. Our dog is amazing and had very minor health issues (worms) - Kelly paid for the treatments immediately and we are going on three years with this beautiful dog. We will be getting another dog from her!

I have two dachshunds from Splendor Farms. Hercules was my first puppy and has the best temperament. He has always been a happy and easy going little guy, but I felt like he would be even happier with a friend. A few months ago, I reached out to Kelly to inquire about her thoughts on which direction I should go...another puppy or an older fur baby (Hercules was now 3 years old) and she told me she had a 10 month old that she thought would be a perfect fit. Needless to say Hercules and I took a road trip to Splendor Farms and came back with a new best friend! Both are wonderful additions to the family....naturally there was an adjustment period, but I cannot imagine life without them. Fur babies are just like people and have their own unique personalities! While Herc is laid back and chill (pretty sure he would make friends with a burglar) Gideon is my guard dog who hears everything and alerts me! He is also like a teenager and talks back from time to time- Herc just gives me the side eye! Both my boys are very healthy and well adjusted. Kelly is great and has always been helpful when I sought out guidance. She truly cares about the puppies and both of my boys are proof of that. If I decide to add to the family she will be the one I call!

I purchased a 3 year old dachshund from Splendor Farms a year ago. She is the apple of my eye! I have had dachshunds before and recognized there is a transitional period any time you re-home an adult dog. Our little girl is an absolute sweetheart who has grown in confidence and love over the year. I would highly recommend Splendor Farms for the quality breeding and great temperament along with solid health and beautiful characteristics.

Just over 6 years ago, I visited Splendor Farms to pick up my two dachshund boys as puppies. They've grown in to the most loving, sweet, healthy, smart, stubborn, and handsome long haired dachshunds! Their personalities, friendliness, and natural majestic good looks draw lots of happy smiles! They're always compliment by their vet as well. Very thankful for these two boys and couldn't be happier!
If you're looking for AKC quality dachshunds - whether puppies or retired adults - Splendor Farms is wonderful!

I’ve owned many dachshunds in my lifetime but the sweet boy we got from Splendor Farms is by far the best quality pup I’ve ever had. We got Tanq from Splendor as a puppy. He’s almost 2 years old now. He is loving and sweet and was already crate trained. I’m ready to go get another sweet doxie and it will be from Kelly because I can email her and she always answers. She loves her pups and likes to keep up with them and cares about their futures. Can’t say that about most breeders.

I currently own 4 longhaired dachshunds that I have purchased from Splendor Farm. I got the first two as puppies and the second two as adults. I’m so glad I made the decision to get my dogs from Kelly. The Puppies were in excellent health when I brought them home, and I had no problem using the crate method. They use their crate every day, even though they don’t sleep in them at night anymore. It’s like their own little den. My two adult girls were a little shy at first when I took them home, but within a week they really started to show their personalities. They are very loving girls and are great with my children. What really impressed me was that when I picked up my adults, Kelly made sure to tell me that if the dogs did not seem to be a good fit for us, she would take them back, because she did not want to see any of her dogs go somewhere that was not comfortable for them. Overall , it seems as though Kelly has a deep love for all of her dogs, even the ones that have moved on to forever homes, and her biggest concern is making sure her dogs are happy for the rest of their lives.

Splendor Farms is the best place if you are looking for the best Dachshunds! Not only they are beautiful dogs but with the best temperament. Kelly the owner is an amazing human being with so much knowledge. She not only gives you everything you need as a dog owner but she will be there for you for any questions or concerns you may have about your dog through his life! Highly recommended..

Splendor Farms is by far the best full grown and little dachshunds you could ever want. I received two grown five-year-olds and they are truly my soul. I also asked for another one that was 3 months old. These are the best trained dogs I’ve ever seen. No bad habits what so ever no accidents, you just can’t get a better dog. I have six altogether and the three I got from Kelly or truly the best. These dogs have the best temperament and even the veterinarian said so. And I want to thank her because they are truly my heart.

***Do not buy dogs from this breeder!***

My friend bought an adult dachshund from this establishment. As someone who works with dogs, it was very clear to me that this dog had been traumatized. She is a very fearful dog - sensitive to hands reaching towards her and skittish about sounds. She does not know how to play with toys, and she is slow to trust people.

Secondly, this breeder's responses to my friend's concerns and questions have been rude, unhelpful, and lacked empathy.

This breeder has been reported to the AKC.

If you're looking for a dog, be sure your breeder has a dog's welfare and wellbeing at heart. Ask questions. Figure out where they're staying, how they're treated. Not all breeders are knowledgeable about dogs and what's best for them.

I purchased two Splendor Farms dachshunds in 2015 and 2017. Kelly continues to communicate with her Spendor Farm dog community (families who have purchased her dachshunds) with new information and offers advice whenever asked. My dachshunds are the sweetest and most loving dogs. Their coats are super soft and they are full of spunk. They provide us with a lot of laughs and happiness. I trust Kelly and would definitely purchase another dachshund from her farm.

We searched extensively to find our stunning dachshunds of high show quality. By chance, we came across Splendor Farms and I am reminded every day how fortunate I was. I had two longhair red dachshunds when we lived in Germany four decades ago. We brought them back to the United States with us, and when we eventually lost them, we were devastated. This indicates how many years we have been actively seeking pups with exceptional pedigrees. Our dachshunds are intelligent, affectionate, inquisitive, and beautiful! When a new vet at our veterinarian office first saw Gumbo, they stopped, pointed, and exclaimed, "That dog is a show dog. Dachshunds like that are not seen every day." As their "mom," I was extremely proud. We have had Gumbo for two years now, and Nola, who was two years old when we got her. I eagerly anticipate every day spent with my wonderful boy and girl.

I picked up my puppy from Kelly in 2017. She had all the paperwork ready to go, along with being microchipped & a bag of puppy food. Kelly & I had already had a couple of conversations about how the puppies were trained, so I knew what to expect. She also reviewed that same information when I picked her up. We flew home the following day & the pup couldn’t have traveled any better. My little dog is smart as a whip & we were able finish housebreaking with relative ease. Kelly has gone out of her way to make herself available if I have any questions or need a resource. Her website also provides a great deal of information. If I were to get another Dachshund, I would make sure it came from Splendor Farms.

This commercial breeder has been reported to the AKC. The breeder placed profit, social media, and dog aesthetics above the welfare of my dog. Here is my personal experience with this breeder, Kelly McKinney:
1) sold me an unhealthy and emotionally traumatized dog, per a professional dog behaviorist assessment

2) misled me about Sunni's age (initially said she was 2yrs old and then upon delivery and a $1000 deposit, told me she was 4yrs old and 4mos. Then she ESCALATED the purchase price upon delivery from $1200 to $2000. By this time I was already emotionally prepared and attached to this dog after the deposit.

3) Additionally, she ignored all attempts at communication regarding ongoing medical problems ($4750.54 to date within the first 14mos of purchase). The breeder only responded by blocking me on her facebook page. My dog had a LARGE and painful 1.5cm stone in her tiny bladder which took many months to resolve before considering surgery, and then recurrent UTI's and then an enlarged heart within the first 14 mos of my purchase of her. All veterinary reports were sent to her to prove this and yet there was still no response of apology, sympathy, nor empathy. Upon requesting a prior medical history before purchase, the breeder sent them to me after name-calling and bullying text messages. I found this reaction and lack of response shocking, uncaring, unprofessional, disrespectful and unacceptable.

4)The breeder initially told me her adult dogs were ONLY bred twice before selling them as young adults. My dog's prior medical records indicated a c-section at a young age of 2 yrs and a post-op muzzle for anxiety and pain, and then subsequent artificial insemination every 6-8 months of her first 4yrs of life. It is no wonder my behavior therapist for dogs said she was the most anxious and frightened dog she had ever met for being an AKC dog. This was an additional $2000 for behavior therapy that remains ongoing.

These actions constitute a series of unethical behaviors, which are unacceptable for a breeder claiming to be of good merit with the AKC. With this sequence of events, it would have been more appropriate for the breeder to compensate me something or at least minimally charge me (and other clients) for RESCUING her adult dogs rather than charging $2000 for a 4+ yr old retired female after multiple artificial insemination breeding.

I was made aware of several other buyers who got dogs with very similar behavioral problems, and also early onset spinal problems. I am writing this to hopefully help future dachshunds and let this breeder know that she needs to improve her practice ethics and take care of her adult dachshunds better.

I would not have gone to these measures of writing a review to caution other buyers if the breeder would have communicated kindly to my messages and at least provided empathy and some form of compensation for the high veterinary bills and the behavior therapy.

Took the girls for a horsey ride. Been asking for a long while. Red dead redemption II will have that effect. Both are fascinated with the creature, and I was also curious to ride one. We did the 1 hour ride and it was interesting. It's hard to get the horse away from the grass.lol. it's easy to yank the leads, but your like"just let him eat for a second " I wish I could remember her name, but she was definitely a cowgirl. Nice as could be and conversated with the girls. I plan on another trip doing the 1.5hr ride. Hope to get the same guild.
