GARDEN OF THE GROVES
A tropical garden with waterfalls, an artificial lake, a bird sanctuary and a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers.
Named after Freeport's founder and architect, Wallace Groves, the tropical garden displays its exuberant vegetation amidst waterfalls, and an artificial lake adds a touch of freshness. Here ferns, flowers and rare trees are protected. A very wide variety of trees, shrubs and rare flowers bloom in peace and quiet. A bird reserve, which amuses children with its parrots, geese, turtles and fish also in the artificial lake. The place is very popular for immortalizing newlywed couples in an idyllic tropical setting. Moreover, a small chapel is perched on a high place for the couples to receive blessings. The spiritual labyrinth is a replica of the one found inside the cathedral of Chartres. On the shopping side, you can find handcrafted and natural products such as those from Abaco Neem, a bookstore. The small shops are similar to the buildings of Green Turtle and Hope Town. Smart tip: at the bar next to the lake, don't hesitate to spray yourself with mosquito repellent lotion... You can also have lunch there. Finally, note that the Garden of the Groves offers three Bed & Breakfast accommodation options nearby. Guided tours by reservation. Grand Bahama Nature Tours (same management) also offers a tour of the city and the Garden of the Groves, including transfers to and from your hotel. Accessible to disabled persons (wheelchair available).
