Grotte du Pêcheur is a historic site that welcomed the island's first settlers after their ship was wrecked on the nearby reef.
The "Preacher's Cave" is a historic landmark that is of special importance to every Bahamian and especially to the people of Eleuthera. It welcomed the island's first settlers, the adventurers of Eleuthera, after their ship sank on a nearby reef. It was the site of the first religious services on the island. A few dozen meters away, a hedge of dunes hides the beach and the reef, which caused the shipwreck. A stele recalls the role of their leader, Captain William Sayle, in the history of the colonization of the country.
