COLUMBUS MONUMENT
4.5 m high obelisk with spectacular view, at the northern end of Long Island, commemorating the landing of the conquistadors.
At the north end of Long Island, also known as the North End, a marked trail leads to the Columbus Monument. This 4.5 metre high obelisk commemorates the landing of the conquistadors. At low tide, the view of the bay and its well-protected cove is magnificent. The access stairs, as well as the stretch of dirt road leading up to here, were renovated in 2020 and it is now easy to climb to the top to admire this spectacular view. Beware, on windy days it can be dangerous to approach the steep cliffs.
