Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, located in the town of Grand Staircase Escalante-National Monument, is a veritable museum of sedimentary erosion. It takes visitors down a 200-million-year-old staircase of animals, minerals and plants. The 1.9 million-acre monument is divided into three geographical sections: Grand Staircase, Kaiparowits Plateau and Canyons of the Escalante.
