HOLTERMAN MUSEUM
Museum with photos showing the difference between the small town of Gulgong and other Australian goldfields.
The Holtermann photograph collection is housed at the NSW State Library. Discovered in 1951 in a Sydney garden shed, 3,500 negatives of photographs taken by Beaufoy Merlin and Charles Bayliss detail life on the goldfields in the 1860s-70s. Bernhard Holtermann later sponsored the work of the two photographers. Consisting of some 350 images, the 1872 photographs of Gulgong show in great detail what made this small town different from other Australian goldfields.
