A breeding site for sea turtles in the South Pacific, just a few kilometers from Bargara.

A few kilometers from Bargara, Mon Repos is the most important breeding site for marine turtles in the South Pacific region. They come to lay their eggs between November and January and the hatching takes place from January to March. The rangers organize nightly tours for an intimate encounter with the turtles on the beach and observe the laying and hatching of the eggs. Endangered species, they are part of a conservation program to educate tourists about their protection.

We had reserved for 2 people to get to see the turtles to lay their eggs on the beaches of the reserve My Rest in Queensland in January 2012. We expected to be privileged people, perhaps ten people to attend this wonderful moment of nature. What a shock when we arrived on the beach! We were more than 200 people to watch that. On site we decided not to stay. Which shame, how to claim to preserve nature and turtles when nearly 200 people are there. To avoid at all costs.
One of the most moving moment by my trip to Australia! The rangers are passionate and I was likely to visit one evening full moon (magical light) and the lorque rangers one ordered to us not to travel more: 90 baby turtles passed between our legs while running (sic) moving towards the ocean...then a rock seemed to ocean: a énooooooorme turtle left water and settled comfortably lay in front of our amazed eyes. Then we have to help the rangers has to protect the eggs and the tides and predators. Magical!
