ROSS - FEMALE FACTORY
A pretty little village steeped in English atmosphere, between Launceston and Hobart, with many historic buildings.
Ross is a pretty little historic village in Tasmania, between Launceston and Hobart. Imbued with an English atmosphere still very much alive, it retains many historic buildings testifying to the importance of this small garrison town established in 1812. In those days, Ross had a prison exclusively for women. Between 1848 and 1854, it served as a transit detention center for women prisoners, and also had a hospital and infirmary. A factory was also affiliated with the prison.
