SAVUTE MARSH
Swamps northwest of the Mababe basin fed by the Savute River, with dead trees testifying to the vagaries of the water.
To the northwest of the Mababe Basin, this area was once vast swamps. Fed by the Savute river, they dried up completely the day the river stopped flowing in 1982. Flowing again, it reached the swamps in 2010 but did not completely fill them. Here, the dead trees bear witness to the whims of the water. For years, its absence on the surface allowed the trees to grow, but a sudden and momentary return of the river drowned them. In the rainy season, herbivores roam this rich grazing area.
