Classified as a national historic monument in April 1988, it was the country's first steam pumping station, built in 1871, following a severe drought that hit the capital and led to a public appeal to remedy the crisis. In addition to its architectural value, it embodies the rise of industrialization and the resulting economic development. In 2006, the Water Museum was inaugurated on this site, including the administrator's house, the adjacent park, as well as the old factory and machine rooms. Guided tours are offered.
