"Thaqab" means "water in the valley floor after the rain". Located 10 km from Zubarah, this fort with its crenellated Arabian-style towers was built in the 19th century to protect water sources and to store food for the villagers living in the nearby town of Qalaat al Thaqab in case of an enemy attack from Bahrain. Unfortunately, it was not properly renovated in the 1980s, which led to a new renovation more in harmony with its original form in 2003.
