SHEIKH FAISAL BIN QASSIM AL THANI MUSEUM
The museum of the Emir's cousin, Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, a great lover of everything, as long as it's art, houses a motley and incredible private collection of over 33,000 pieces, some over 100 years old, others more contemporary. A Middle Eastern cabinet of curiosities amassed by a passionate collector!
But first, admire the immense building constructed of local stone, with traditional turrets. Oryx roam the grounds, so drive slowly!
We advise you to arrange this visit with an erudite guide who will be able to give you explanations about the objects on display, as most of the showcases have almost no legend or dating. The rooms are divided into 12 themes: from Islamic art to Qatar's heritage, jewelry and coins. These objects come from Southern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia, all linked by trade routes. Highlights include the largest private collection of swords, daggers and sabers in the sub-continent, a reconstructed traditional Syrian house and the Koran Room. Admire the magnificent dhows (ancient boats).
An exhibition of 300 vintage cars from all over the world, currently undergoing renovation, will soon reopen within the museum. A museum of antique carpets from this collection has opened on the 6th floor of the Marriott Marquis Hotel - Doha City Center (visit by appointment).
