Sanliurfa enjoys a continental climate, with long, hot summers and cold, harsh winters. The average temperature is 25 days a year below 0°C and 100 days above 30°C. Despite this heat, the air is not stifling, as humidity is practically non-existent. Annual rainfall is 432.3 mm. Not-to-be-missed sites include the citadel built by the Crusaders, the Rohas spring, the archaeological museum, Harran and Eski Sumatar. The town lies 518 meters above sea level, 137 km east of Gaziantep and 180 km from Diyarbakir. It has a population of 1,613,737.
