In the Middle Ages, Grancey-le-Château is an important strategic place. The first lords of Grancey appear towards a thousand. At the end of the 15 th century, a sire from Grancey was templier with the Center center, which is km in the northwest. During the Hundred years war, the Lord of Grancey remains faithful to the King of France, against the Duke of Burgundy who, to revenge, stormed the city and dismantled the fortress. Then we are in 1435. The present castle is built at the beginning of the th century, on the location of the medieval castle. Built shortly after the Château de Versailles, it is nicknamed "the petit Versailles de Bourgogne". You can reach it through the Burgundy door, a fortified door dating back to the th century. Today he belongs to Jacques de Mandat-Grancey and does not visit. On the other hand, it is possible to visit the Saint John college, the true jewel of Gothic art, founded in 1365 by the local lords, Eudes V and Mahaut de Walnut.
