GUANO POINT
Guano Point offers a 360° view of the Colorado River and the facilities that served the guano mine
Guano Point offers a 360° view of the Colorado River and the facilities that in the late 1950s served the guano (bird droppings, in this case bat droppings) mine from which the US Guano Corporation hoped to extract 100,000 tons of fertilizer. Extraction of the precious guano began in 1958 and came to a halt in 1959, when a US Air Force plane hit the overhead wiring lines. However, the estimated amount of guano was far less than the reality, and the mine was unprofitable.
