Discovered by Tasman and named by Cook, Cape Farewell is the northernmost tip of the country's South Island. Just 200 metres from the parking lot, the view of the sea is complete, with panoramic views of the sculpted sandstone and quartz cliffs on the rock arch below. This was formed by the gradual erosion of the cliffs carried eastwards. Several walks are possible from Triangle Flat park: Pillar Point lighthouse, Wharariki beach. However, caution is advised due to wind exposure, so stay behind the safety fences!
